BEAVER BIỂU TƯỢNG CỦA CANADA

(After some words here you can read in English)

With the kind help of our teachers at UNB we had a chance to visit the New Brunswick Museum in Saint John city. It is said that Saint John is the happiest place to live work and do business in Canada. We are here to study and the Museum is one of the best places to know more about New Brunswick as well as Canada.

The beaver played an important role in Canada s history. They are the second-largest rodent in the world. Beavers are known for building dams canals and lodges (homes). Their lodges have underwater entrances to protect against enemies. They are covered with fresh mud which freezes when the frost sets in. The mud becomes almost as hard as stone and neither wolves nor any other predators can attack the beavers.  The beaver officially became a symbol of Canada in 1975.

Our classmates tried to wear a beaver pelt on their head in the way native North Americans did a long time ago. The beaver is a symbol of the fur trade of the early days. It was also featured on the first postage stamp in 1851.

The moose is also very common in Canada. The moose is the largest existing species in the deer family. The males are taller and heavier than the females. The moose can grow to be over 3 metres in length and can weigh 600 kg.

My Tran our friend pretended to eat a trilobite fossil and we couldn t help laughing.
Trilobites are a well-known fossil group of extinct marine arthropods that lived 540 million years ago. Lucky her teeth stayed still !

She said that we couldn t be any luckier in the New Brunswick Museum where we understood more about Saint John as well as Canada the second largest country in the world.
